We have been working hard down in Metro Detroit, teaching and writing, and back in northern Michigan for writing and health! And Scott just had another treatment, thank you for the prayers. Looking forward to seeing you out there, and also with shows and book events coming next month in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Detroit Michigan.
We are marking the calendar for Thursday March 21st with a new single release! Scott and I are releasing “14 Miles of Bad Road” and I have more brand new songs being released in April, May, and into June on all major platforms, culminating into a new album later this year x There are also videos so it’s an all new Spring fever.
I am singing and playing keyboards, with Scott Dailey on strong and wild guitar, bass and backing vocals, Lauren Johnson on drums, Jason Charboneau on cello, Chris Spooner on baritone bass, Ron Wolf on percussion, Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound for the drum sessions and Warren DeFevre at Third Man Records Detroit for the mastering. Also, special thanks to Erin Zindle for the incredible video work for the songs!
I’m also working on another two new songs and a new poetry and prose book. So my blog right here will feature the links to the new songs as well as video premieres on YouTube for each. And there will be news on radio interviews and airplay, too, coming up soonon NPR Detroit WDET-FM 101.9 and much more.
“14 Miles of Bad Road” is a rock and roll number that builds on guitar with a sneaky organ and and a bluesy feeling underneath. We’ve got a counterpoint singing in the verses and a wild fuzz guitar solo searching in the middle built on piano and guitar, with a hard, hard road.
And in April, we’re also releasing the song “Blue Ridiculous Love” (written by Scott and me) , and all single releases will be available digitally on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud and Amazon, etc., but also as new videos on YouTube. Yes! We will eventually have a CD/viny release party as the songs will be available this Fall at shows, too.
While we had a huge end of the year at the end of December 2023 with many shows and television appearances, it’s almost Spring and time for all new! I’m updating so much right now.
Thanks for the love, support and patience!
Love, Carolyn, Scott and the Carolyn Striho Group ) x
It’s snowing hard and there’s good news that the new album is coming out this year! Last year had marvelous shows and my December blog named a few of the great ones. This year, we’ve got some gems coming up. In fact, we have some bookings already for 2024, not just 2023 (!) I’m also doing more Book Event shows for my book “Detroit (Maiden Energy).”
We’ve got many new songs and Scott Dailey and I have been writing and recording music that has taken us on a wild, fantastic journey. Also, this year is another Orchide Records Detroit release of my former band Detroit Energy Asylum. It’s a new album of some of my never-heard before songs and a maze of energy music.
As mentioned last month, good news here, too, with Los Angeles’ famous Music Connection magazine naming the Carolyn Striho/Scott Dailey duo as one of the Hot 100 Live Unsigned Bands nationally for 2023 as well! https://www.musicconnection.com/hot-100-live-unsigned-artists-bands-2/
Also, I’ve been included in a new book, “Hit Girls: Hit Girls: Women in Punk in the USA 1978-1983” “ by Jen Larson which spotlights female musicians who were as important to the early punk scene as male musicians. I’m featured in five pages also with my band The Cubes and several other Detroit bands, as well as great bands from all through the U.S., and honored to have contributed. It’s a reminder that this important music started from the soul of so many young teenage girls like me. This is a short blog as we’re readying so much material and working hard on it. Can’t wait for you to hear our new music, so please stay tuned.
