With 12 studio albums and numerous compilations in the U.S. and Europe, in the years with my bands and incarnations, it’s time for new recordings. And after 7 overseas tours, we’re planning a bigger one to the U.K. and possibly back to Italy. Both books I’ve been working on are now with rewrites and layouts – hopefully some of the writing and editing is coming together soon. There is definite news on a retrospective release coming, too, from Orchide Records, which also houses our album “Secrets and Space” and Sonic’s Rendezous and Fred “Sonic” Smith retrospectives (as well as keyboardist Luis Resto) https://orchiderecords.bigcartel.com/products. But I just want to thank many for the support here in Detroit, throughout Michigan and Canada, too, over the years doing music. I’m honored to have been making music for many decades as I was a teenager playing Detroit clubs so many years ago – time flies- I’ve been grateful to work with the best, and with my own new releases coming up. All this takes me back to the hard work in the studio and onstage. And with a big election coming up in November, and so many important issues to turn to, let’s make things blue – it’s time to work on love and hope!! I’ll be back soon with new music in a new direction and some new announcements of very cool events here in Detroit/Metro Detroit I’m involved with, too xx
Aretha. With the most magnificent voice and the songs and power of inspiration and hope wrapped into your beautiful presence. As a child growing up in Detroit, you were here and still are. Respect and love forever. At the time I was writing and update to this original blog post, Aretha Franklin has passed away here in Detroit, While I think of those who have left the physical earth, including my own mom and dad, it can bring a sadness with the good memories. Life seems easier in the summer somehow. However, while it’s only noon, the light gives way to clouds and darkness. Aretha’s son, Teddy Richards, and I wrote and recorded a song “Lost in a Dream” several years ago together…”my tears are gone, the sun is here”..prayers.
Walking near poets who have passed before us this summer on our England tour and getting a moment on the Isle of Wight Colwell Beach, it was time to celebrate! The message continues to never give up. Life is scary and this is just reminder to love and keep on loving. And vote in November – these elections are more important than ever. Remember, people have the power.
Although it’s been a fast summer with brilliant shows here and over in England, we’re now in Michigan festivals in August and September. This weekend, the full band is back together at a new festival, Motor City Muscle Music USA near the Detroit River in downtown Detroit. Our set is Sunday, August 19 3:30 pm on the Spirit of Detroit Stage. All the shows are free and feature many local bands and national acts such as Reverend Horton Heat, Belinda Carlisle and Death, Ace Frehley (Kiss) and so much more – if you’re in Detroit, come on downtown to the heart of the city. Details at https://motorcitymuscle.us/
We also are returning Labor Day weekend to Arts Beats & Eats, Saturday night, September 1 at 6:45 pm on the Cultural/Acoustic Stage. It’s going to be a big weekend in Royal Oak, Michigan with a full band set coming up – new songs and guest violinist, Leslie DeShazor, who is also playing with Chick Corea and one of my favorites, Esperanza Spalding, at the Detroit Jazz Festival. I’ve super memories when I played at the Jazz Festival in 2009~! At Arts Beats this year, there are many great musicians, bands, arts and food, and national acts such as Ben Folds and The Spinners. http://artsbeatseats.com/
We’re bringing in music with heartfelt Detroit connections on Labor Day Monday, September 4 where we salute unions, workers and those who have fought for our rights for many years. Musically, I’ll be over at the Michigan State Fair Mega Jam with Nadir Omowale, The Brothers Groove, Laura Rain, Miz Korona and more- 1 pm https://www.michiganstatefairllc.com/
Also, a quick note: we released our latest CD in October 2016 – “Afterthought” – which was on the Grammy Awards First Ballot this year for Best Rock Album and nominated for Outstanding Rock CD of the Year in the Detroit Music Awards. We just restocked the new CD here online and in physical form, and our next recording may be on vinyl (surprises coming..)
In September, I’m back at teaching and recording. Thanks for listening to the music, downloading our songs, enjoying the videos and going to shows. Support the arts if you can. And hope you have a great Autumn of love and good dreams.
Happy Anniversary, Scott Dailey xxo Carolyn https://www.reverbnation.com/carolynstriho
My Soul is in a Hurry – I want to surround myself with people who know how to touch the hearts of others. People who learned through the hard blows of life to grow through gentle touches of the soul. Yes, I’m in a hurry, I’m in a hurry to live with the intensity that only maturity can give…” Poem by Mario de Andrade (San Paolo 1893-1945) Poet, writer, essayist and musicologist. One of the founders of Brazilian Modernism. x
