Back home from a road trip to Negril, Jamaica, a kindness music sun ocean splash after wicked winter bronchitis! But coming off the fantastic Detroit shows at P.J’s Lager House, Rock 900 Comcast and PBS’ Metro Arts taping, I’m excited to announce a big night at a gorgeous new venue – Barbara Payton, Carolyn Striho and Mary McGuire join up for a tour de force of live music night together at 20 Front Street – an excellent new place that cares about music and its musicians, too – and fans and friends! It’s the next show in my CD Release year and we’re grateful for support for “Afterthought,” and excited to be joining fantastic Barbara Payton and the marvelous Mary McGuire as we join forces with melody, rock and roll, fierce blend making this a not-to-miss show Friday, April 28th in Lake Orion, Michigan – early show, and hope to see you if you’re in southeast Michigan.
And just announced, I’m happy to be included in the final nominations for the 2017 Detroit Music Awards! After so many decades of making music, it’s great to be honored once more this year with my super talented guitarist/comrade Scott Dailey, too, and our great band:
- Carolyn Striho – Outstanding Rock Recording – “Afterthought”
- Carolyn Striho – Outstanding Americana Instrumentalist
- Carolyn Striho – Outstanding Rock/Pop Artist/Group
- Scott Dailey – Outstanding Americana Recording – “Holiday”
- Khary Frazier, Scott Dailey and Carolyn Striho – Outstanding Rap Recording – “Free”
So while I couldn’t be on the 2017 ballot for Outstanding Songwriter because I have won the Songwriting Award for Rock in 2015 and 2016, I’m thrilled and excited that my newest album “Afterthought” and Scott’s newest EP “Holiday” are nominated, and with “Free” for rap performance together with Khary Frazier. Our violinist Bonnie Kaye also received a nomination in the Classical category. www.detroitmusicawards.com
For a new month, so many stars on the wind full moon, nights writing, days teaching, bringing in some well-deserved songs that are being re-released and finally released, both. Some of the songs we are pulling back together on live shows are going to be very different and unusual. Some of the music veers towards a jazz, soulful bent, with classical gypsy keyboard and guitar with cello and violin. It’s about time these possible gems are pulled out from long winter ghosts. The weird thing about all this is new music moving in space, mad love/madness of these recent years bringing things new
So! Thanks for listening; details coming on summer shows in Wisconsin and Illinois, a show at the great Otus Supply in Ferndale, Michigan, a possible return to England, on the road to my new book and more new music, sending cheers to all who create music, art, community and spirit, always to good health, too. Thank you xo
Love, Happy Easter and Happy Passover,

What a year…2016…shocking to lose David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Sharon Jones, so many others, …then there was the election – but we got back in the studio to finish the album with the band and very special guests. I won my 11th Detroit Music Award, too. In 2016, I received Outstanding Songwriter of the Year – Rock – for the 2nd straight year. It was an honor to receive a new award!
The new album “Afterthought” is doing well and I’ve had to reorder CDs for the New Year. You can order online at CDBaby, ITunes, and Amazon, or if you are local, there are CDs at fine Metro Detroit Music Record stores or email me – we just received a new shipment. And my husband/guitarist Scott Dailey’s new single/EP “Holiday/Indonesia” is also available now. Check the online sites and local stores, too!
With shows at Detroit’s River Days, Ann Arbor Art Fair, Arts Beats & Eats opening for Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Callahan’s Music Hall, Stray Cat, Bands Together Against Cancer and much more, it turned out to be a great music year – and the Playa Del Carmen, Mexico trip for songwriting circle, too, was beautiful.
Also, I was the subject of a Detroit Free Press feature article for my new “Afterthought” album, and honored to be back on WDET-FM’s Ann Delisi’s Essential Music for a great interview. Talking with Don Was and Iggy again at the Majestic Theatre, being a part of the Fillmore Theatre Detroit Music Awards show and more airplay in outstate Michigan through the Midwest and into Europe again, I’m grateful to be finally back to working on the book and busy teaching teenagers. And we’re getting ready for 2017 – a big set of challenges but happy to be making music. And a new album is back in the works already…
Love and peace, may you have good health & joy.

“Afterthought” moves through a host of musical moods, from the moodier, darker vibe of the opening title track to exotic gypsy-rock feel of “Russian Inn” to the lively, driving sound of “Love Won’t Stay Close,” which you can hear exclusively for now in this Freep First Spin debut…” Brian McCollum, Detroit Free Press Music Editor, October, 2016.
