. There’s good news coming on a compilation album we’ll be featured for November/December too (“Folk Now”), and some new live shows later. Stay well and thanks again! Love,
We just had a fabulous show in December at Detroit’s Cadieux Cafe with our band, The Carolyn Striho Group, and Scott Dailey and I are being featured with many Detroit bands on NBC/WDIV Channel 4 Live in the D Christmas Special, being broadcast right near Christmas. Broadcast date coming soon !
I also have been asked to perform for Girls Rock Detroit and their holiday concert fundraiser on Friday night, December 22nd, at 630 pm with a great lineup of Michigan and Detroit musicians, songwriters/singers and performers. Join us in downtown Detroit at The Tin Roof Detroit club (next to Comerica Park) on 12/22/23 for a big night with young teens joining us with singing as well! More details here at https://www.girlsrockdetroit.org
The year is ending and we DO have the new music here. It’s coming out in 2024, as we couldn’t quite make the deadline this month. However, it does sound so good that we are really excited and honored for you to hear it in a month or so! And thanks to everyone involved! I’m glad to have my new material out soon, and Scott and I have worked in the studio again recently with more writing.
I promise a longer update and the next ones will be including new music – soon!
Love, and Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and stay healthy xx Carolyn x
Great news! Our new song “The Bridge” is on the first round of voting in The Grammy Awards(R) Ballot for Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance! Released in June 2023, “The Bridge” was written, sang and performed by Erin Zindle and Carolyn Striho.Thank you to Geoff Michaels for engineering at Big Sky Recording in Ann Arbor Michigan, where we recorded the song in spring 2023. Thank you to Jamie Candiloro for mixing and to Greg Calbi/Sterling Sound for the mastering. Artwork and lyric video by Erin Zindle. You can hear it here on Youtube or just click this link or the Hearnow: https://carolynstrihoanderinzindle.hearnow.com
Scott Dailey and I have been wrapped up with mixing the songs and working and teaching and we are getting ready to release the singles soon. Being mastered by Third Man Records Cass Corridor Detroit, they are almost ready!
We also were grateful to travel back to Europe, this time again to Italy, with cousins who live in Trieste and near Slovenia. We have played in Europe on seven tours and am honored to have played Donne in Musica, Rome, Frascati and Fiuggi, and also, in the U.K. several times in London and Isle of Wight and in Japan.
We also had a great summer of shows throughout Detroit, Metro Detroit, Grand Rapids and near Ann Arbor.
I’ve got some new shows to talk about soon, and one is from a reading/music show with my book at The Mount Clemens Public Library, in downtown Mount Clemens, Michigan on Saturday, October 14th, at noon. This is a really cool new Library and the show will feature poetry and also some new music I’m doing. Details here https://events.getlocalhop.com/author-visit-carolyn-striho/event/9hJFmgwAfM/
And thanks for the airplay on WDET-FM NPR Detroit, KLT The Rock Station in Traverse City, Michigan, Ann Arbor’s 107.1 FM’s Tree Town Sound and WHFR-FM Dearborn Michigan as we continue to hear new music on the radio from our previous and new recordings from us, including Detroit Energy Asylum, Carolyn Striho & Scott Dailey, and Erin Zindle and me for our new song.
There’s also a new album out that features the band I was in for many years, Detroit Energy Asylum. Detroit Energy Asylum’s “Landslide of Life” is a heartfelt, spirited album and I hope you might check it. With a stellar production job by Freddie Brooks, it contains ten songs, nine of which I wrote or co-wrote and with a cover of Iggy’s “I Need Somebody.” I’m on lead vocals, piano and rhythm guitar with Dave McMurray on saxophone, Luis Resto on keyboards and our wonderful cast of great musicians, including Jervonny Collier on bass, Vinnie Dombroski on drums, Randy Jacobs and Joey Mazzola on guitar and more. Thank you for listening, and I’m happy to be releasing the new music soon…it’s really coming, along with several Fall shows, too, that feel different. It’s amost as though a strange, new enlightenment is coming together.
Saturday evening, March 5th, Scott Dailey and I will be performing at Two James Spirits in Detroit’s Corktown as part of the Corktown Music Festival. Our percussionist Ron Wolf is joining us, too. It’s a benefit for 4 PAWS 1 Heart for homeless pets, so come on down to warm up and enjoy some music, spirits and good March hope. And wish Scott a happy birthday! Into Spring and beyond, we’ll be performing with the full band at The Cadieux Café in Detroit, 20 Front Street in Lake Orion, several music festivals in the Detroit area/Northern Michigan area, a possible return overseas to the U.K. – and more surprises with shows and traveling!
Thanks so much for the nominations in the 2022 Detroit Music Awards. Our band, The Carolyn Striho Group, is nominated for Outstanding Rock/Pop Artist/Group. Also, thanks for the big support for “Detroit (Maiden Energy)” which was on the First Ballot of the Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album 2022. https://recordingacademy.com/news We are praying for the people of Ukraine. Love, peace and hope remains. x Carolyn Striho
It’s been one tough year again, but I’m really grateful today for our gigs and music this year. I’m also grateful for the Grammy Awards First Ballot nomination for my audiobook “Detroit (Maiden Energy”) for Best Spoken Word Album 2022. I’ve met so many singers, musicians and authors, and we did travel a bit for the book, too. And I am excited to be back on recording a new album with my husband and guitarist/songwriter Scott Dailey.
We lost some incredible people this year however, including my friend and promoter Pete Holden in the U.K. at the Isle of Wight Rhythmtree Festival. Rest In Peace, Pete.
2022 will bring some new music releases and also, from the way back catalogue of goodies!
So here’s to a better year, and for more compassion, peace and good health,
